Overhead(Legacy)—Genie garage door?
Question by unkown: Overhead(Legacy)—Genie garage door?
The torsion springs were replaced today by the repair men and when we pushed either button(remote or wall mount), the garage slightly opened. However, after he replaced the springs, the repair man was not able to get the motor to lift the door. He said that we had to replace the motor. I’m wondering if anything happened to the settings of the motor or something after he replaced the springs. Is there a way to reset the motor. If we press the wall mount or the little remote we hear nothing but a red light lights up on the back of the motor. We do not have a keypad outside of the garage, only the wall mount and the two remotes. Any ideas on what happened or how to reset it??!?!?!?!?
the door can be raised by hand. But the motor is not working. When we press either the remote or the wall mount, a red light blinks on the back of the motor mount. But clicks, no movement, no nothing!! help!!!!

Pull the emergency release and see if you can raise the door by hand. The spring tension will allow you to raise the door with minimal effort if it’s properly set. If you can’t raise that door manually, then he did something wrong, but if you can raise the door then there is a motor problem. Plug in something where the motor is plugged in to see if the outlet is operating. Check all breakers, fuses, or GFCI in the garage I have an Overhead Legacy in my garage, and there is no reset button anywhere on it. Use the process of elimination and you’ll find the problem.

did the repairman try to make any ajustments to the motor setting or did he just say you needed to replace the motor.if he did not try to make any ajustments then how could he say you need a new motor
he should have tryed to make ajustments or it could be he is not skilled in his trade.there are ajustments on the motor maybe he just did not know what he was doing.
Were one or both of the springs broken? If not what did they tell you about replacing them?? Only very rarely do I change springs that are unbroken. ( twice in ten years) At any rate if I were you I would not do a thing until you give me or other door repair folks on this site more info. I could be wrong but I smell a ripoff or incompetence here. Also approximately what you paid will tell me a lot about what is going on.I go by my fathers’ old saying that ” I don’t make a lot of money but I sleep well at night”. Your door opener sounds repairable even though I see few Overhead Door brands in my area. And no residential openers (or most) I see of your vintage have overloads. They are built into the motor windings and reset automatically. You might have blown the starting capacitor for the motor. Again an easy fix and any door having a broken spring replaced should be checked for a bad capacitor at the same time.
