I have a Genie Pro Screw Drive garage door opener. The switch that is installed only allows me to open or close the garage door, leaving me with only the 4.5 minute default time limit before the lights turn off. In order to switch the lights on independent of door operation, do I need to install a new switch, or is there possibly a button on the power head which turns the lights on/a way to jimmy-rig my own light switch?
Where is said timer and how may I destroy it?

The switch is on a timer, You can disconnect the timer, this will leave the light on. Or you can use a 3 way switch, this will allow the timer to stay in the loop, and give you a switch on the wall as well. This way it will shut off 4.5 minutes after the switch is turned off.

there should be a button for the light only, on the switch that gets mounted on the wall. Unless its only one big button. Same button opens and closes. You may have o order a different switch and may have to add a wire to your opener. What i did is i added some nice flourecent lights in my garage forget that cheap garage opener light.
